<div dir="ltr">Thank you! That makes sense! So either split or give them more room. I have counted 6 queen cells under construction but nothing in there yet. And just split them this weekend making sure there are one day old eggs and ordered a queen for them to speed up the process for the queenless hive. </div><br><div class="gmail_quote"><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_attr">On Tue, Apr 30, 2024 at 11:21 AM Kate Whealen <<a href="mailto:beto1234@earthlink.net">beto1234@earthlink.net</a>> wrote:<br></div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0px 0px 0px 0.8ex;border-left:1px solid rgb(204,204,204);padding-left:1ex"><div>At this time there should be maturing drones and possibly some queen cups under construction if the colony is crowded or honey bound. Are you trying to prevent swarming? Once the queen lays an egg in a queen cup and the bees begin feeding the larva after the egg hatches it is known as a queen cell. If you have multiple queen cells under development this can indicate swarm preparation. If there are many developing queen cells present this is a good time to split the hive. At the very least it’s important to make room for the queen to lay to prevent crowding in the brood nest that can trigger swarming. Add empty frames or top bars to encourage the bees to build more comb instead of focusing on swarming.<br id="m_5684532690644862633lineBreakAtBeginningOfMessage"><div><br><blockquote type="cite"><div>On Apr 30, 2024, at 10:34 AM, E Davydenko <<a href="mailto:katyad13@gmail.com" target="_blank">katyad13@gmail.com</a>> wrote:</div><br><div><div dir="ltr">So from a swarm prevention point, the end of April (assuming all other factors that the colony is doing well, growing, and has mature drones, and maybe a few queen cells already building) would be ideal?</div><div id="m_5684532690644862633DAB4FAD8-2DD7-40BB-A1B8-4E2AA1F9FDF2"><br><table style="border-top:1px solid rgb(211,212,222)"><tbody><tr><td style="width:55px;padding-top:13px"><a href="https://www.avast.com/sig-email?utm_medium=email&utm_source=link&utm_campaign=sig-email&utm_content=webmail" target="_blank"><img src="https://s-install.avcdn.net/ipm/preview/icons/icon-envelope-tick-round-orange-animated-no-repeat-v1.gif" alt="" width="46" height="29" style="width: 46px; height: 29px;"></a></td><td style="width:470px;padding-top:12px;color:rgb(65,66,78);font-size:13px;font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;line-height:18px">Virus-free.<a href="https://www.avast.com/sig-email?utm_medium=email&utm_source=link&utm_campaign=sig-email&utm_content=webmail" style="color:rgb(68,83,234)" target="_blank">www.avast.com</a></td></tr></tbody></table><a width="1" height="1"></a></div><br><div class="gmail_quote"><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_attr">On Wed, Apr 24, 2024 at 7:52 PM grietje laga <<a href="mailto:grietje.laga@gmail.com" target="_blank">grietje.laga@gmail.com</a>> wrote:<br></div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0px 0px 0px 0.8ex;border-left:1px solid rgb(204,204,204);padding-left:1ex"><div>Happy to take a couple of swarms from people if you already have too many hives.<div>Thanks for keeping me in mind!</div><div><br></div><div>Happy bee season!</div><div><br></div><div><div><br><blockquote type="cite"><div>On Apr 24, 2024, at 6:26 PM, Kate Whealen <<a href="mailto:katewhealen@earthlink.net" target="_blank">katewhealen@earthlink.net</a>> wrote:</div><br><div><div>I’ve gotten calls in Santa Fe as early as April 15, it seems like there are a few early swarms some years.
